Last November, Edward and I threw together a b-session party including make-up and hair artists to give these lovely ladies a truly fantastic experience. We shot the session in a gorgeous character house in Mission, and were able to get some pretty amazing images for our upcoming website launch of 'Risque' boudoir...coming soon.

2011 was a year of celebrations in my family and although this wedding was a little rushed...ahem...with only a few weeks to plan, it all came together beautifully.

It was a small gathering, intimate and lovely, and I was honoured to be the one to capture it all for you.

Congratulations mom & Garnet, you two are an inspiration to us all that love can find you at any age, and sometimes in unexpected ways. You were friends for many years first, and finally came to the realization that together you could finally find the love & acceptance that you had both been searching for.

I love you both and I know that you will have a beautiful life together....

Looking back at 2011, there were a lot of great moments. I met some amazing people; have grown even closer to the ones I hold dear and I really feel like I'm on the path I was meant to follow.

There's no greater feeling than that.

I've had many opportunities to do what I love, in this case 'photography' and wanted to share some of my favourite wedding images with all of you.

I'm looking forward to see what 2012 brings, there are many projects on the go and I'm excited to see where it leads.

A day to remember...

We woke up to Southern Alberta's first snowfall of the season and I think we all felt a teensy weensy bit of panic. However, knowing the Smiths as well as I do, I felt pretty confidant that we would pull this off no matter what the weather. And of course we did. Aside from the balmy conditions (-10 degrees...yuck) we were able to get in ALL the family shots ( thanks for your patience...) and some pretty gorgeous images in the country.

Irena and Dustin- you two make a beautiful couple, and I want you both to know how touched I was by your hugs and kind words for shooting your wedding. It was my privilege to do it and I wish you all the best for the future....xoxo.

Urban family Session

There's no denying this fact...my big brother Chad has a pretty smokin' family...seriously. You guys were totally in your element within this Urban setting and you all photographed so beautifully. Sweet for me. Easy as pie. Oh, and I can't forget to mention how well behaved and camera-ready Riot was. Those jowls of his hung perfectly and he knew just when to turn that gorgeous mug towards me...I'd say he's ready for a Hollywood career.lol.

I'm glad we finally managed to fit this session in- you have NO excuses for not getting family pics done with a photographer in the family!

*Oh, and by the way, the reflection shot of your family has to be one of my favourite shots ever. Thanks for braving the rocks and water in your heels, Jenny.

It was totally worth it.

Carla is one of my dearest friends. We have been there for one another throughout our personal trials, life's ups & downs, laughter, and tears. We are both determined women who have put in many, many hours into our individual passions(businesses) but more importantly into our families. This is my 4th season as a photographer and my 4th time around taking fall images for this beautiful family- your support means the world to me.

Pardo Family- Country

I'm thrilled to say that we finally got a chance to make this session happen! Angie won a free lifestyle photoshoot from me months ago when I had my website giveaway. I was pretty excited when my daughter pulled her name from the hat, since I think her family is pretty special. She & her hubby John have been providing a beautiful, loving home for foster kids for some time now. It takes some pretty remarkable people to open up their home & hearts this way and I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to create some lasting memories for them.

Paula & Mike- Urban Intensified...

It's hard to imagine that we created all these cool shots within a mini-session time frame (45 mins) AND with 5 kids in tow. Seriously, I'm impressed. And even more impressing was that there was absolutely NO chaos throughout this family session, just lots of laughing, some running, a bit of fashion feel and a whole lot of memory making.

To sum up, a fantastic session with a great family. Thanks guys, I had a blast.

This session was a lot of fun. James & Joelle's 3 girls have tons of spunk and personality and totally made the Urban setting a success. Between the steep, intimidating alley stairs (especially scary for little Gabby, but she climbed them anyway thanks to some encouragement from James and the rest of the group), and the dirty, bird infested ledges we tackled...we certainly got some cool shots.

I loved the bright colours and grunge backgrounds- so contrasty and vibrant. Enjoy the preview you guys, more to see soon!

Meville Family- Fish Creek

Stephanie is one of my dearest friends, and I always look forward to her yearly family sessions. They are always so open to my sometimes crazy, creative ideas and the kids seem to easily tap into their own creativity and express it easily.

We decided to keep the environment natural & pretty and we couldn't have asked for a better day for shooting. It was a balmy 20 degrees (at 9 in the am) and the colours in Fish Creek were gorgeous- yellows, oranges, greens...a beautiful fall day.

This was my second season shooting family portraits for this awesome family. Last year we did it up 'Urban' style but decided to go more natural this Autumn, shooting in Fish Creek park. Beautiful fall colours, and gorgeous diffused light allowed for some beautiful portrait studio type light. Stunning.

Little Savannah was the life of the party with her location decisions and posing style, yep, she's a natural in front of the camera all right!

It's that time of year again...kids are back to school, & weather is cooling off, which leads us to thinking about (dread) Christmas and all the things we need to get done before it rolls around.

I was thinking of how I could make the process of getting family pics fun yet more efficient for those of you out there that want quality images in less time.

So V.R. Photography is offering a MINI-SESSION weekend at two locations with two different styles, Urban- Inglewood and a more natural, ( outdoor fall setting) in Fish Creek.

Each session will last 45mins, and will include a disk of 10 of your favourite images ready to print anywhere.

The best part is that the first 10 families who book in will receive all this goodness for an amazing price of $199 (package is valued at $400).

Urban Wedding- Mark & Jessica

This was the most significant wedding I've shot since becoming a pro photographer. My little brother and his gorgeous better half, Jessica, have been together for 9 years and are parents to my adorable niece, Nevaeh. (In case you didn't notice, that's heaven spelt backwards....cool, eh?) Knowing my family as well as I do, I figured there'd be lots of emotions, tons of laughter and possibly a few inappropriate yet comical comments throughout the day. ( We're french, need I explain further?) I wasn't disappointed, in fact I was so moved by the rawness of emotions openly displayed by so many of my loved ones throughout this memorable day.

Congratulations, it was an amazing day and I know a lot of hard work and thought went into planning this incredible event.

I love you both so much and am grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of capturing these memories for you.

Stephen & Natasha- Wedding at the Banff Cascade Gardens

Despite the unpredictable weather, this special day turned out perfectly. It was an intimate wedding, with only a few friends and family. The ceremony took place in the Cascade Banff Gardens and we couldn't have asked for a more stunning backdrop.

There were a lot of laughs and a few tears as this amazing couple pledged their vows to one another. Afterwards we had the opportunity to leisurely shoot in and around the Banff area and capture some beautiful moments.

Congratulations to you both, Stephen & Natasha, may you both enjoy many years of laughter, love and good times together.

I first met Natasha about 20 years ago ( yep, I'm THAT old..lol) when our moms were hanging out and our families often spent time together.

We lost touch for many years until by chance we met up again at my daughters nephrology clinic where she worked. Long story short, we've stayed in touch since, and I was more than delighted when she asked me to photograph her upcoming wedding in Banff.

I have to tell you that I just love this couple. They not only bring out the best in one another, but their chemistry is so sweet and honest. Congratulations on your engagement and your upcoming wedding in the mountains.

Creating custom art is becoming a wonderful outlet for me. As much as I love portraiture, there's something really special and calming about working with inanimate objects and bringing them to life through textures and color...

This is one project that I've been looking forward to for some time. My brother has a large open showroom that's been screaming for some color and art and luckily for him, he has a sister passionate about creating just that kind of stuff.

One of my ALL TIME favourite childhood movies was 'The Never-Ending Story' so you can imagine just how happy I was to hear that my good pal Keshia was planning on naming her son Atreyu....GREAT name.

Although only a week old, he sure let us know when he wasn't happy with our positioning, and he DEFINITELY wasn't about to agree to the nudie shots...lol. But all in all, it was a successful newborn session, and I had lots of opportunity to hold and cuddle this gorgeous little guy.

I was so excited about doing this newborn session! Not only are they a gorgeous bunch, but we have considered little 3 year old Sydney as a part of our family for the last of couple years so this was a special session for me.

Farrah is so tiny & dainty and an absolute doll to photograph; I can't say that I've ever seen a newborn smile so often & so easily as she did when she was in her mommy's arms. Wow.

Lynsay and Ryan, you two are going to have your hands full with these two little beauties!

What a whirlwind of excitement & hard work this production was for all involved! My daughter Brooklyn was in a Musical Production called 'The Queen, The Bear and The Bumblebee. She, along with a handful of other children dancers; 3 main dancers, an orchestra, a children's choir, and a narrator committed to many long hours to make this a magical show. Kudos to the choreographer, Maya from La Caravan Dance Studios for her amazing talent and foresight in giving our children an incredible opportunity to express themselves through dance.

Here's a glimpse into the backstage world of theatre....at least in our corner:)

Okay, so I've got a bunch of pics that I've been anxiously waiting to upload onto my blog page unfortunately, Photobucket has been having some technical issues. I'm in the 0.2% of user/account holders that doesn't have access & is affected by this problem!!!! Just my luck....!!! SOOOOO....either they get it resolved SOON or I'll need to find another uploading site. Super Frustrating. This also explains why ALL my images are currently empty boxes with some info about maintenance. Well, the only upside is they are upgrading my account to pro for one year. Free of charge. That's something at least.

When Keshia and I talked about her upcoming maternity shoot we both agreed that there would be NO baby blocks or hand hearts...nope, none of that for this girl. Keshia is a dynamic woman and so it would only stand to reason that her session should reflect that. So we combined some soft window light & gorgeous angles to show off her sensitive side and then headed downtown to throw in some rockin' urban as well.

Cupcakes, Sunshine & Tears??

It didn't start like this, in fact we couldn't have asked for a more perfect day...

We started our session at the most delectable cupcake joint in town- Crave...yummmy..and they were even kind enough to let me take my camera behind the counter for some delicious shots.

Afterwards we made our way down to fish creek park- the sun was shining and little Ms.Chloe & her gorgeous mommy were vibrant. It was such a treat to photograph the ever so creative & talented Bree- you truly are an inspiration to me. Many of you know her well, but in case you don't, here's some adjectives that pop in mind- stunning ( obviously), genuine, real, strong, and driven. Love ya girl.

We ended the session with some colourful studio shots, and where little Ms birthday girl decided that we were the meanest people in the world for taking away her (fifth??) cupcake...

Which made the PERFECT last image, don't you think?

Snow Play Winter Session...

There is something so 'peaceful' about winter in fish creek park, the blue sky, the glistening snow....aaahhhh...THEN you add a family who LOVES to play and maybe you get another scene...like, snow in the face, a little shoving, snow racing, tree hugging....

Yep, that's my little bro & his family alright. No posing here ( well, maybe a little), but mostly we're talking about a family who can just be who they are in front of a camera which makes my work a breeze...expose, focus & shoot. Oh, and laugh, lots & lots.
Nice work Mark, Jess, Chris & little Ms.Nevaeh, you guys were great!

This is one awesome family... I used to watch over little Cohen ( lovingly known as Coco to us..) before Laura welcomed her second little gem into their family.

We decided to keep the session indoors where it was warm and cozy, and I'm glad we did. I had so much fun watching the kids in their element and also the sweet interactions between Laura & Rob...for example...(me) 'Hey Rob, make Laura laugh...' (Rob) 'Sure thing..' he then gets her into a serious bear hug and basically wrestles her down to the ground.....lol. Um...not quite what I had envisioned but it sure gave us some great photo ops & lots of laughs!!

Creating art out of plumbing...?

I love my job. Seriously. LOVE. Especially the firsts- the first wedding, the first newborn shoot, the first time I got to experiment with food to make it look scrumptious to viewers ( you can check out those images by going to www.savourfood.ca). So naturally I jumped at the opportunity to create some wall art for the new Stampede plumbing showroom.

Heres's to another first, finding coolness ( yep, that is a word) in lines, curves, metals, faucets and heaters.

Meyer Family...

I've known Chelsea for a few years now, I met her & her hubby Hans through our good friends, the Palmers. She's Jared's little sis, and I DO mean little, (especially when standing right next to her hubby:) and they've only just recently moved to Calgary from the States. We've been talking about her wanting family photos for a little while now, and although we finally found a day that worked, her little guy Austin had other plans. He was completely uninterested in me or my camera for pretty much the whole shoot ( EVEN after sweet bribes and me making goofy faces..) So this one had to be a record for the fastest session ever, but you know what, I have to say that I'm quite pleased with the results, there's at least one smiling boy in the mix:)

Palmer family- country style...

I've been asking Amanda for YEARS when she'd be getting some images done of her gorgeous family....and I can happily report that we finally made it happen! We stayed near their country property just outside of the city and although it was quite chilly, I think we pulled it off.

Lots of candies to reward smiling kiddies ( shocking with their dad being a dentist and all..lol), some running and lots of rocks to climb made this shoot pretty memorable.

Coolest 5 year old ever...

I have done tons & tons of family shoots, and generally speaking you've got two types of kids. There's the 'personalities' where all I have to do is crack a few jokes ( kids LOVE potty humor, almost as much as their dads...lol...), ask them who their FAVORITE super heros/princesses are and bam... their true personalities are on; and then there's the 'get-me-out-of-here's and well, you know... that's when candids are the BEST solution.

And THEN, once in a while, you get one of these...a star. Ah yes, Ms. Personality herself, sweet little Savannah, YOU are a star. LOVE the name too, one of my favorites. Thanks James & Corinne, you were all so much fun. Enjoy the preview...

This was one super rockin' photo shoot- easily slides up there to one of my faves. Trina and Jason were so dynamic, fun and totally REAL...love that.

A piece of my Heritage...

I love Montreal. Love everything about it. The culture, the people, ( who AREN'T afraid to wear their emotions..), the food (ESPECIALLY the SWEET foods- Mmm Mmm...pecan sugar pies, maple spread, poutine...) the arts- EVERYWHERE, the COLORS in the fall, but most especially, I love the family I have there.

I've lost both my grandparents this year, most recently, my Mimi (grandma), last week. They were married for 60 years and although I'm very sad that they're gone, I'm happy knowing that they are together again. I've had the opportunity to get to know both sides of my mother's family this year, and what a treasure they are. Achille, Claudette, Jean-Guy, Tante Louisianne, Jeff ( you rock, and I love ya, cuz...thanks for the day) and so many others.

You know when you just feel whole, when you feel like you're finally 'home' amongst you own? My mom's always tried to explain to me what 'Montreal' means to her, how she's always felt a little out of sorts living here in the west. I never truly understood. But, I do now. I get it. And I've felt it, authenticity. And I will hold onto that- always.

This has been a year of loss, yet I've gained so much, and for that I will always love Montreal. A piece of my heritage, a piece of me.

Little Lily Gibb...

....as sweet and pretty as her name. This little one has touched many of our hearts already, and it was my privilege to capture all that sweetness for Leah and Justin. There are always moments during a photo shoot that I like to stand back & just observe...especially during a newborn session. There is something so heavenly and pure about the way a newborn looks at her mother and the way a mother gazes so lovingly upon her child. The first image is an example of that, Lily was in her mothers arms and her eyes brightened with joy.

Being female, I'm genetically predisposed to gravitate towards accessories. And as a female photographer this has proven to remain the case...

There's nothing better than getting to the pre-bridal shoot and getting the opportunity to get creative with a gorgeous pair of stilettos, diamonds, and flowers.

It's a tough job. Enjoy. I know I do.

Recently, I was asked this question by my cousin, who also loves the art of photography. He said-

"...Send me a link to some of your stuff too...mostly I've only seen wedding/portraiture from you but I'd like to see some street photography, architecture and nature shots."

And you know what? I had NOTHING to show him. At least nothing recent. Between being a wife & mom, running 2 businesses, and everything in between, I really hadn't taken time in YEARS to take up my camera and just shoot. Okay, so this was one of those 'aha' moments for me...along with a bazillion others this year. And what better place to experience serenity then a drive through the mountains? Armed with my SLR and journal, each image represents a recent moment & emotion in my life.

Thanks again Jeff...I took your comment to heart and remembered that my passion for life was what first inspired me to pick up a camera in the first place...

It's never too late to start new traditions- in this case, the new tradition is family photos. This dynamic, hard working mom of 2 admitted that she's never had professional images done of her family and that she wasn't at all comfortable in front of a camera...

Well, if that isn't the best challenge for a photographer to hear then I don't know what is! You did great, and I hope I succeeded in capturing the essence of your family in these photos.

My sister's little miracle....

She's finally here, our sweet little bundle. My baby niece...Ava. She has no idea how much of a blessing and a miracle she is to my sister. And to all of us. I can't get too personal, but I will say that there has been many happy tears, and colossal life changes made since the beginning of this journey. I love you sis and am so proud of you for all you've become and for the extraordinary mother you will be. She's perfect. Wonderfully, absolutely perfect.

A photographers dream shoot...

I can't help but smile and let out a little chuckle when I think of this photo shoot. Talk about personalities!! Wowza. These two were ridiculously fun and fabulous. Seriously- thanks Erin & Eugene for allowing me to get a little crazy & creative. You have no idea how much that means to a photographer when individuals are open & willing to try just about anything. I'm talking high jumps,(resulting in a slight injury..oops, sorry 'bout that)yoga positions, some rain dancing, lots of smooching, and most importantly a ton of laughing.

Erin and I hung out in junior high some 20 or so years ago (...um...ya, I am THAT old...) we haven't seen each other in, like, forever but I remember her being sweet and shy. Now you ask?? Let's just say she has become one heck of a dynamic, outgoing, and HILARIOUSLY funny gal!! Congrats you two on 10 years together...you are unquestionably meant to be together, and if I'm wrong, well hey, now you've got some great images for your divorce announcements!!...(that was for you, Erin...lol, inside joke folks).

A wedding in the country...

Beautiful. Elegant. Picturesque. I could go on and on. The location for this wedding was breathtaking. Just outside of Millerville, this property ( belonging to a friend on the bride's side) had a private lake, a bridge, an old gas station complete with pumps and an old vintage pick up. Never mind the house itself...oh my. No need to say that I was in heaven, glorious creative paradise.

Jason & Renee- I want to thank you for allowing me to be a part of this momentous occasion. It is always a joy for me to see two individuals so in love and so emotionally connected to one another.

Renee, the look in Jason's eyes as he saw you walk down the aisle, and the same look again as he read his vows to you was so pure, and so touching. It is obvious how much he adores you. And Jason, you must have cast some sort of spell on your girl as well, because wow, did she ever light up when you were near her.

Re-living the 50's...photo booth style.

My very creative and very talented friend, Keshia, wanted to do something special and memorable for her sis-in-law's birthday bash. The party was centred around the 1950's (Stephanie's FAVORITE era) and all the girls came dressed up in domestic, yet stylish housewife attire.

So as a surprise, she hired me to come out and set up a studio photo booth complete with lighting and 50's props. Some of the girls were a little shy at first, but after some encouragement and lots of laughter, I'd say it was a hit. Oh, and I have to give props to my buddy Tanya- YOU got so into character, and had us all entertained!!!

My dearest friend Carla has expressed to me numerous times how much she regrets not having had any professional images taken at her wedding, 15 years ago...

Well, I told her, better late than never...and really, after all these years together, and knowing each other so completely now, this shoot was a breeze. All I had to do was set them up and let them be their quirky, crazy, still madly in love selves.

Thanks you two...I hope you love them as much as I loved taking them. You are an example to all of us that a bond between two people can grow and become something spectacular if you allow it to.

I had a blast last Saturday, second shooting for edward ross photography .

Amazing couple- TOTALLY in love; there were funny, entertaining & from the heart speeches; VERY rare indeed...put together by an incredibly talented event planner, Amira. Hotel Arts is a great venue, by the way.

Set up in a matter of minutes, this easy to assemble white studio backdrop, along with soft lighting = FUN, FUN, FUN!!!

I haven't had the opportunity to shoot so many quirky, off beat guests EVER. Oh, and how about the fact that you can actually get a good pic WITH the newly married couple AND with old friends and family members that you haven't seen in ages?? Like really, it's practically IMPOSSIBLE to get a properly exposed image at receptions with the dim lighting and crazy colored dance floor strobes going!! Hard enough for photographers to get it right with our equipment, never mind for the average point & shoot camera....

Nice thinking, Ed- here's hoping it'll be a hit!

What an AMAZING family to work with, sooooo easy going and down to earth. Christal and I became friends a few years ago as VT companions, and I was thrilled when she asked if I would capture her little arrival. Sweet Alyssa...only 4 days old and SO alert! I had a blast, even when Cooper REFUSED to smile ( although, I did get some adorable smirks out of him).

New to newborns...

I LOVE taking pictures, any pictures. But, I haven't had the opportunity

to do any newborn shoots since my brother's baby was born,

3 years ago!

So, I really wasn't sure what to expect with my 4- day old model today...

but I have to say, baby Chloe, you rocked it girl!!

I can't wait to start the editing process, hopefully I'll get some posted

within the next week...who am I kidding,

Okay- so if you're not normally the type to leave comments, then I need you to step outside the box for a sec and let me know if this is something that would appeal to you. I'm talking to the ladies out there, moms (especially); young women; older women- all of you.

When it comes to photography, I've heard many women say, both young and old that they wished they had 'good' pictures taken of themselves. There is wedding, family, baby, and other shoots that generally fill our albums; would you love to own an album that contained images that represented all the sides of you? The real you? Crazy, soft, nutty, sexy- (and yes we all are in our own ways), beautiful you?

Some would say it's self-indulgent or a waste of money...but I can tell you 100% that I have never come across a beautiful self portrait of a relative that I haven't cherished. I have one image of my grandmother when she was in her twenties...she was stunning. I wish I had more. I have about 5 of my mother- tiny little black & whites, again, wish I had more. SHE wishes she had more because she says she's almost forgetting what she once looked like, the person she still feels like inside. She's inspired me to think about offering this special photo shoot for women. For moms, young women, any women, really.

I'm envisioning a 2-3 hour location photo shoot, complete with a makeup artist, maybe a hairstylist, (all optional) lots of wardrobe changes...a day for you, and then of course a beautiful album of the most important person in your life. You.

What a fun shoot this was with my little bro & his family. I can always count on Mark to work his nuttiness into any situation. We had lots of laughs, a couple slips, some high jumps and a little fashion diva to glam it up.
